Child and Adolescent

Dr. Stormberg utilizes a variety of clinical interview techniques and clinical instruments to provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for your child or adolescent. Initial assessments always involve the clinical interview of the child, consultation when appropriate, the parent(s), other significant people in the child’s life, including siblings, teachers, and others. Additionally, Dr. Stormberg may utilize such projective techniques as play therapy strategies, and instruments such as the Kinetic Family Drawing. Also utilized are adult self-report instruments such as the Connors Scale, and psychometric instruments such as the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children and the Parenting Stress Index. Collecting other information from other professionals involved in the child’s life will also be obtained during the initial phase of assessment and treatment. Dr. Stormberg does not offer formal psychological testing.

Dr. Stormberg has been trained in both traditional intra-psychological as well as inter-psychological theories and approaches. This means that a child’s presenting symptoms may be understood within the child him/herself, for example, biologically and/or psychologically, and within the context of the child’s environment, including the family system, parent-child relationship, peer relationship, school, and community. What results is the creation of an understanding of the presenting symptoms which may require interventions with the child, the parental subsystem, the family system, peer and school systems, or other environments such as a daycare, rec center, employment, or athletic environments.
